NTSE-2009 National Talent Search Examination Notification - Scholarship Exam

National Talent Search Examination (NTSE -2009)

ARE YOU IN CLASS-VIII? YOU MAY GET SCHOLARSHIP UPTO YOUR P.G./Ph.D.

National Talent Search Scheme is a flagship activity of the NCERT started in the year 1963. The purpose of the scheme is to identify talented students and nurture their talent. Talent refers to the potentiality that manifests itself in a high level of performance in one or more specialized areas. The scheme, therefore, covers areas like Sciences, Social Sciences, Engineering, Medicine, Management and Law. It honours and helps talented students by providing financial assistance in the form of a monthly scholarship. For the course in Basic Sciences, Social Sciences and Commerce, this assistance is provided up to Ph.D. level. For professional courses like Engineering, Medicine, Management and Law; this assistance is given only up to Post Graduation. For the selection year 2009, The NCERT will conduct the National Talent Search Examination for students studying in Class VIII only.

1. Scholarships: On the basis of the examination conducted, 1000 scholarships will be awarded for each group of students appearing for Class VIII examinations.

2. Reservation: 15% scholarships will be reserved for students belonging to the SC category, 7.5% scholarship for students belonging to the ST category and 3% for Physically Challenged Group of Students each in respect of the class VIII.

3. Scholarship: Awardees of NTS Examination will receive a sum of Rs. 500/- per month as per NTS rules.

4. Selection:
There will be two-stage selection process for award of scholarship. For Stage-I, selection will be done by States/UTs through a written examination. Students who qualify Stage I will be eligible to appear for Stage II examination conducted by NCERT.

6. Eligibility: Students of Class VIII studying in recognized schools are eligible to appear Stage I examination conducted by the States/UTs in which the schools are located. There will be no domicile restriction.

7. Examination: The pattern of written examination for Class VIII will be as follows:

Stage I examination at the State/UT level will comprise two parts, namely (a) Mental Ability Test (MAT) and (b) Scholastic Ability Test (SAT) covering social sciences, sciences and mathematics.

Stage II examination at the National level will comprise (a) Mental Ability Test (MAT), (b) Scholastic Ability Test (SAT) covering social sciences, sciences and mathematics, (c) Interview. Only those candidates who qualify the written examination at the National Level will be invited for the interview.

8. State Quotas:
Each State/Union Territory has been allotted a quota to recommend a specific number of candidates for the Stage II examination, the details of which will be made available on the NCERT website. However, there will be no States/Union Territory Quota for the final award of scholarship after the Stage II examination. Reservation for SC, ST and Physically Challenged will be as notified in para 2 above.

9. Application Forms: Application Forms may
be downloaded from the NCERT website www.ncert.nic.in. All correspondences related to Application Forms should be addressed to the State Liaison Officers (LOs) whose addresses are given at the end/Website: www.ncert.nic.in

10. The completed application form duly signed by the Principal of the school should be submitted to the LO before the last date i.e. 31 August 2008.

11. Fees: States and Union Territories may notify the fee required (refer to NCERT website) which will be paid for the Stage-I examination. However, NCERT does not charge any fee for the Stage-II examination.

12. Announcement of Results: Results of the Stage-I examination will be announced by the respective State Governments/Union Territories. Results of Stage-II examination will be announced by NCERT.

13. Indian Students Studying Abroad can appear directly for Stage II NTS Examination under conditions prescribed in the NTS brochure for Class VIIIlatest by 31 March 2009.

Agatha Harrison Memorial Fellowships For Indian Students

Level of Study : Advanced Research

Duration : 1year

Eligibility :

Indian national. Age 30-40 yrs as on October of the in-take year. Qualifications- uniformly brilliant academic record (with 60% marks at Master's degree level) with Ph D degree in the subject field or published works of equivalent merit. Value /Passage Cost:

New Zealand Scholarships For Indian Students

Level of Study : Ph.D.

Subjects: Soil Science, Dairy Technology

Eligibility :

Indian national residing in India. Qualifications Master's Degree with 60% marks in respect of Soil Science and Dairy Technology. Experience 2 years teaching/research/practical experience after obtaining Master's Degree. Academic year starts from February. Age: The application will normally be accepted from those candidates who have completed their master's Degree in the subject concerned within the last five years as on 31st July of the Year of advt.

Value/Passage Cost :

Travel to and from New Zealand is arranged by the shortest route and economy class as arranged by the authorities of the donor No provision is made for the expenses of the dependent. Expenditure on board, lodging, books, study material, tuition fee, internal travel related to studies and medical care is met by donor country.

Additional Requirements (common for United kingdom, Canada and New Zealand)

Knowledge of India and of the donor country; 2 years consecutive stay in India after return from abroad for study/training/specialisation. Candidates qualifying from universities which do not award class/division, requirements in lieu of First Class i 60% marks (conversion formula may be given where grades are awarded). For candidates who are doing Ph.D./M.Phil after completion of Master's Degree, actual period of research is taken into consideration as experience.

Syria Government Scholarships For Indian Students

Level of Study : Graduate

Eligiblity: 10th Pass with 60% or more marks.

Age: No age limit.

Portugal Scholarships For Indian Students

Field of Study :

A. One(1) Scholarship of a months' duration for postgraduate studies/research in the field of education.
B. Two Research scholarships for research work in the subject of Portuguese language and culture for a period not exceeding twelve months each.

Qualification:

Scholarships are meant for post graduate, University teachers who know Portuguese language and with to undertake research in Portuguese language and culture. Applicants should possess Masters degree in the concerned subject. Only the candidates who have secured admissions/acceptance in a Portuguese Institute/university may apply. The applicants should not be more than 45 years of age.

Scholarship Amount:

The Government of Portugal will pay an amount of € 500 (equivalent to INR 21,000) per month.

C .Six Scholarships of 8 months duration each for pursuing Annual course of Portuguese language & culture.

The applicant must be enrolled for Portuguese Studies in any Indian University.

Good knowledge of Portuguese language.

Value:- The Government of Portugal will pay an amount of € 450 (equivalent INR 19,000. However, the first month's grant will be € 825 equivalent to INR 34,500). Payment of registration and tuition fees will be paid by candidates themselves.

Passage Cost : From India to Portugal and back will be borne by the candidate themselves or their employer/sponsor.

Norway Scholarships For Indian Students

Admission Requirements : Candidates should have atleast a Bachelor's degree with 60% marks in aggregate in agriculture, biology, forestry, wildlife or in social sciences. Professional experience of 2-3 years in resource planning and management is desirable.

M.Phil. in Social Change, Specialising in Geography

Admission requirements : Candidates should have atleast a B.A. degree in Geography with 60% marks in aggregate. Candidates with B.A. in other Social Sciences with similar percentage of marks might also be considered for admission, if their first degree includes some subjects with the field of Geography. Candidates must pass an English proficiency test (TOFEL, min. score 550 or IELTS, min. 6.0).

M.Sc. in Hydropower Development

Admission Requirements : Candidates should have atleast a B.Sc. degree with 60% marks in aggregate, in Civil engineering (such degree should be obtained not before 25.10.1991) or equivalent and 2-5 years experience from planning, design and/or construction of hydraulic works. Candidates holding M.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent will not be considered.

M.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering/Petroleum Geosciences

Admission requirements : Candidates should have atleast a B.Sc. degree with 60% marks in aggregate, in Petroleum Geoscience or in Petroleum Engg.

Diploma/M.Phil. in Fisheries Biology and Fisheries Management

Admission requirement : Candidates must have a first degree or Bachelor of Science (preferably with honours) in biology with special knowledge in aquatic biology. A strong background in mathematics and statistics in advisable and also some filed experience. Candidates should have atleast 60% marks in aggregate in their degree.

M.Phil. in Gender and Development

Admission requirement : Candidates must have a Bachelor degree or its equivalent with atleast 60% marks including a concentration of course work corresponding to 1.5 years of full time study in a field or subject of specialisation relevant to gender and/or development issues.

M.Phil. in Health Sciences (International Health)

Admission requirements : Candidates should be graduates with atleast 60% marks in aggregate, from school of medicine or dentistry, or from disciplines such as public health, nursing, nutrition, human biology, medical technology, pharmacy, social and behavioural sciences and international health.

M.Phil. in Public Administration

Admission requirements : Candidates must have a University degree based on either (a) three year of studies or more from a recognised Non-Norwegian University or (b) Bachelor, Cand. mag.-degree or comparable degree recognised by the academic Collegium at the University of Bergen. Candidate should have 60% or more marks in aggregate in their degree.

M.Phil. and Social Anthropology (with emphasis on Human Ecology)

Admission requirement : Candidates must have atleast Bachelor of Arts in Social Anthropology/Sociology with atleast 60% in aggregate.

M.Phil. in Comparative and International Education

Admission requirements : A Bachelor's degree or equivalent with atleast 60% marks in aggregate (at least three years beyond the Norwegian minimum requirements for matriculation) is required.

M.Phil. in International Community Health

Admission requirements : A Bachelor's degree or equivalent with 60% or more marks in aggregate is required. English Language skills documented by either TOEFL test (min, 550 points) or IELTS band 6.0.

M.Phil. in Special Needs Education

Admission Requirement : A Bachelor's degree or equivalent with atleast 60% marks in Special Needs Education or other relevant subject or A qualified teacher's training certificate followed by a minimum of one year's full time university or college study in Special Needs Education.

M.Sc. in International Fisheries Management

Admission requirement : Candidates should have Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts or Cand.mag. degree or equivalent with atleast 60% marks in aggregate with in Biology/Ecology and/or Economics/Organisation/Law. They must have knowledge Mathematics and Statistics corresponding to the University's introductory courses in these subjects.

Value/Passage Cost *

Centre for International University Co-operation (SIU) will pay a return air ticket from the fellows home country.

A monthly allowance sufficient to cover food, rent and other ordinary living expenses will be paid by the middle of each month.

An installation allowance equivalent to half a monthly fellowship allowance will be provided for deposit at the Student Campus, for warm clothing and extraordinary expenses. Supplementary clothing must be covered from the regular monthly fellowship allowance.

While in Norway Fellows attending the international courses are insured against major costs of medical attention through the Norwegian National Health Insurance Scheme (Dental care is not included). SIU covers accident and life insurance for all courses participants.

During the fellow's stay in Norway, SIU does not cover insurance against theft etc. when travelling outside Norway the fellow is not covered by SIU financed insurance.

SIU does not take responsibility for accidents or for the loss of the fellow's luggage or personal possessions on the journey to and from Norway. The fellow is, therefore advised to take out insurance before leaving his/her home country.

Mongolia Scholarships For Indian Students

Course of study : Mongolian Language and Mongolian study

Eligibility :

Indian nationals residing with in the country. Age below 45 yrs. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree. Addl. Requirements: Good Knowledge of English, 2 yrs consecutive stay in India after return from abroad for study/training.

Value: The scholars are provided with the course fees, living allowance and free accommodation in hostel for the duration of stay.

Passage Cost:

Travel expenses form India to Mongolia and back are payable by the candidate or his/her /employer/sponsor.

Mexico Scholarships For Indian Students

Level: P.G. and above

Eligibility: Indian nationals residing India. Age Below 45 years. Candidates should have a degree/Ph.D. from University. Additional Requirements: Sufficient knowledge of geography, culture and heritage of Mexico; 2 yrs consecutive stay in India after return from abroad for study/training/specialisation.

Value :

Monthly maintenance allowance, Registration and college fee, medical insurance to be paid by Government of Mexico.

Passage cost Travel expenses fro India to Mexico payable by the Govt. of Mexico.

Japan Scholarships For Indian Students

Course of Study: Research study.

Eligibility: Indian nationals residing in India. Age below 35 yrs.

Qualifications for Japanese Language: Candidates who have enrolled in the Post graduate degree in Japanese language or completed undergraduate degree in Japanese language or completed Level 2 of JLPT conducted in Japan Foundation and have completed at least 3 years of Japanese language study in a University. For Japanese Studies: Masters Degree. For Ship Building, Bachelors' degree with 60% marks in the related field alongwith two consecutive years practical/research/teaching experience after obtaining the prescribed qualification. For Other Subjects: Masters degree in the relevant field with minimum 60% marks alongwith two consecutive years practical/research/teaching experience after obtaining the prescribed qualification.

Value : Maintenance allowance to be paid by Government of Japan which covers study allowance, fee, part payment of medical expenses, accommodation etc.

Passage Cost : Return air ticket is provided by the Japanese Government.

Italy Scholarships For Indian Students

Subjects of Study / Minimum eligibility requirements :

Category 'A'


Three scholarships of six months' duration each to pursue the Corso Supedore (Level V) of Italian language at the University of Foreigners, Perugia.

Eligibility:

* Graduate or equivalent degree from a recognized University.
* Good knowledge of Italian
* Possession of diploma of Level IV from the University of Foreigners, Perugia.
* Age not to exceed 45 years.

Category 'B'

Fourteen scholarships of three months' duration each to pursue Corso Medio
(Level III & IV) course of Italian Language at University of Foreigners, Perugia.

Category 'C'

Four scholarships of one month's duration each to pursue Corso Straordinario of Italian Language at the University of Foreigners, Perugia.

Eligibility for Category B and C :

* Graduate or equivalent degree from a recognized University
* Good knowledge of Italian
* Proof of knowledge of Italian language mandatory (like a diploma or certificate).
*Age not to exceed 45 years.

Scholarship Amount

Selected candidates will get an amount of 1,200,000 Lire per month as scholarship amount. The above mentioned amount is inclusive of stay in Italy as well as the course fee which is reduced to 50% for all scholarships holders.

No international travel cost to and from Italy or local travel cost while in Italy for any Category of the above Scholarships will be paid either by the Government of Italy or by the Government of India. Therefore an undertaking to the effect (as in Annexure-II) that the international travel cost to and fro Italy and local passage while in Italy (if any) will be borne by the candidates or his/her employers/sponsors should also be submitted along with application.

Israel Scholarships For Indian Students

Field of Study: P.D./Specialization(8 Months research).

Duration: 8 month(research)/ one year for P.D.

Subject:

International Relations, Judaism, Hebrew language, History of the Jewish people, Agriculture, Political Science.

Eligibility:

Age 35 years. Candidate should have 55% marks or more marks for Humanities. For Agriculture 60% or more marks and two years research/work/teaching experience. Candidates who are staying abroad will not be considered. Candidate who are already abroad for more than six months for study/research/training are eligible to apply only if they stayed in India for two consecutive years after their return from abroad.

Value of Scholarship :

To be paid by Israeli Government to cover stay, tuition fees, health insurance etc.

Passage Cost :

India to Israel and back is payable by the candidate/sponsor/employer who will apply for 8 months research. Borne by Israeli Govt. for P.D. Candidates.

Greece Scholarships For Indian Students

Value-of Scholarship: Monthly subsidy: 150.000 drachmas to Post Graduate or research scholars.

Lump sum for establishment expenses: 20,000 drachmas for scholars who will reside in Athens and 30,000 drachmas who will reside in the province. Scholars whose scholarships is renewed are not entitled to this sum.

A lump sum of 30,000 drachmas for transport expenses within the country to scholars who have to travel from their place of residence in order to perform the research program approved by the Department, provided that there is a justified proposal of the supervising professor.

Exemption from tuition fees: it is underlined that, in the event that the postgraduate or research scholar wish to attend Greek Language Courses, they are not exempt from tuition fees which must be paid to the Modern Greek language College.

Special Features :

The Fellowships are awarded for advanced studies/research at Universities/research institutions in Germany and not for a degree. Scholar working for their Ph.D. (except those applying under the sandwich-Model) are expected to complete their doctorate thesis before their departure. The Sandwich Model multi-phase scheme offers the applicant to carry out his research in India and in Germany under the supervision of an Indian/German guide according to previously drafted scheduled. The research stay in the Germany is not limited to a single visit; the fellowship holder could either complete his research at a German university/institute in one stage or carry out part of the work there, return to his home institute to continue the work and institute for consultation while the Ph.D. candidate is working there visit of the German Guide to India for consultation. Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students Last Date : 31.01.2009

CENTRAL SECTOR SCHEME OF SCHOLARSHIP FOR COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

The Ministry of Human Resources Development, Department of Higher Education, Government of India has introduced a new scholarship scheme titled “Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students”.

OBJECTIVE:
To provide financial assistance to meritorious students from low-income families to meet day-to-day expenses while pursuing higher studies.

SCOPE:
The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of the results of Senior Secondary Examination (class XII) of 10+2 pattern or equivalent. 82000 fresh scholarships per annum (41000 for boys and 41000 for girls) will be awarded for graduate / postgraduate studies in colleges and universities and for professional courses such as Medical, Engineering etc.

ALLOCATION OF SCHOLARSHIPS:
The total number of scholarships will be divided amongst the State Boards based on the State’s population in the age group of 18-25 years, after segregating share of CBSE and ICSE on the basis of number of students passing out from various Boards in the country. The number of scholarships allotted to a Board would be distributed amongst pass outs of the Science, Commerce and Humanities streams of the Board in the ratio of 3:2:1. Within the specified quota, the selection shall be made on merit.


ELIGIBILITY:

* The student should have scored a minimum 80% of marks in Class XII of 10+2 pattern or equivalent.
* The student should belong to non-creamy layer as defined by the Department of Personnel and Training in their Notification No 36012/22/93-Estt. (SCT), dated 08.11.1993 and as modified vide their OM No. 36033/3/2004-Estt. (Res) dated 09.03.2004 and as may be further modified from time to time and not availing of any other scholarship scheme. The scholarship once awarded will continue and it will be renewed from year to year till the completion of the course for which the award has been made. A fresh income certificate each year will not be called for provided the scholar fulfils all other terms and conditions stipulated for the renewal.
* The reservation would be applicable in terms of Central Reservation Policy and internal earmarking.
* The Undergraduate/Postgraduate/Professional courses are pursued in a recognized college/ institution in India.

TENABILITY:
A scholarship under the scheme has to be availed of in the year it is made in the Scheme for the duration of the course subject to fulfilling eligibility criteria.


RATE OF SCHOLARSHIPS:
The scholarship will be given @ Rs.1000/- per month at Graduation level for first three years of College and University courses and Rs.2000/-per month at Post graduation level. Students pursuing professional courses would get Rs.2000/- per month in the 4th & 5th year. The scholarship would be paid for 10 months in an academic year.


RENEWAL OF SCHOLARSHIPS:
A scholarship under the scheme is renewable from year to year within the same stage of education. The renewal will depend on promotion to the next class provided the scholar secures 60% or more marks in aggregate in the semester/annual examination which determines his promotion to the next class. It will also be subject to discipline and maintenance of attendance by the scholar. Complaints against these scholars regarding indiscipline including any complaints of having indulged in ragging would lead to forfeiture of scholarship.

If a scholar is unable to appear in the annual examination owing to illness and or on account of any unforeseen event, the award may be renewed for the next academic year on submission of medical certificate and other proof to satisfy the Head of the Institution who will certify that the student would have passed with 60% had he appeared in the examination.

If a scholar gives up the chosen course of study before its completion or if he changes the course of study without the approval of the MHRD the scholarship will be cancelled. Good conduct and regularity in attendance are also required for continuance of the scholarship. The decision of the MHRD will be final and binding in all such matters. Scholarship once cancelled will not be revived in any circumstance.

PAYMENT OF SCHOLARSHIP:
Scholarship will be paid to the selected students directly by the Central Government through a Bank Account opened by them for the purpose in a designated Bank. Based on the eligibility certificate presented by the awardees, the designate bank(s) shall open account for all such merit scholars and ensure timely credit and maintain a proper database of the account numbers of the students receiving the scholarship. Where the branch of the bank is not available, the bank will issue co-branded ATM cards to the awardees, so that they can draw scholarship from any ATM without any charges. This will include flexibility of withdrawal of scholarship by the awardees through ATM of all nationalized banks, and its subsidiaries. The payment of scholarship will start from the month the admission is obtained.

The Department of Science and Technology had launched a scholarship scheme in the year 2002 for women having science qualifications for training in the area of intellectual property rights, especially in patent searches, understanding of patent specifications and preparation of technology scan report. Looking at the overwhelming response received in previous years, DST is continuing the scheme this year too.


Long term Objectives

1. Empower the talented and skilled women who have studied science, engineering and medicine to contribute effectively in the advancement of science and technology in the country.
2. Develop a pool of women in India ready to undertake scientific and technical aspects of intellectual property rights.

Short term objectives

1. Train talented and skilled women who have studied science, engineering and medicine in patent searches and other aspects of intellectual property rights enabling them to seek specialized employment or be self employed.
2. Develop a core of professionals for preparing specialized reports such as technology scan based on patent information.
3. Develop a pool of resource persons In intellectual property rights for conducting workshops on IPR.

Eligibility

1. Candidates should be M.Sc/Ph.D in physical sciences, chemical sciences, life sciences or B.Tech, or B.E/ M.Tech or MBBS / MS / MD / MVSc / BPharma / MPharma with good academic record. Candidates with higher qualification can also apply.

Scholarship

Placement

The selected candidates may be attached with firms/institutions for on the job training and these firms/institutions may not be in these four cities. These firms/Institutions will be specialized agencies dealing with intellectual property rights and attorneys firms. Post scholarship placement is not the responsibility of TIFAC.

Selection Procedure

Selection will be through a written test and interview. Short listed candidates, meeting the eligibility criteria, will be called for the written test. A further shortlisting of the candidates will be done after the written test for the purpose of interview and such successful candidates will be informed. Written examination will be held in four cities, namely, Delhi (for TIFAC), Chennai (for CCSTDS), Pune (for URDIP) and Kolkata (for IIT Kharagpur). Similarly, interviews of short listed candidates will be held at these centres. Each candidate must indicate her preference for the centre in her application.

Terms & Conditions

(a) Since the scholarship is strictly for a period of one year, no long leave (barring exceptional cases) shall be permitted during this tenure.
(b) No leave will be granted for completing/writing thesis if presently enrolled for Ph.D.
(c)Candidates should be prepared for relocating themselves for training. _
